Manual Handling & Risk Assessment in the Work place
Any transporting or supporting of a load by one or more employees and includes: • Lifting • Putting down • Pushing • Pulling • Carrying or moving a load
Which by reason of its characteristics or unfavorable ergonomic conditions involves risk, particularly back injury, to employees.
The risk of injury from a manual handling task will be increased where workers do not have the information or training necessary to enable them to work safely. For example, if they do not know about any unusual characteristics of loads or about the system designed to ensure their safety during manual handling, this may lead to injury.
The course is broken down into stages in theory, power point presentation and practical demonstration by the instructor and delegates.
1. Introduction to manual handling 2. Manual handling and the law 3. Accessing and managing risk in the workplace 4. Flexibility 5. Ergonomics 6. Appropriate systems of work for the individual’s task and environment 7. Principles of lifting
